DC Lab: DC Art Foundation’ın Miami’de Açtığı Uluslararası Galerilere Açık Yeni Sanat Laboratuvarı

Colombian collectors and philanthropists Cristina Chacón and Diego Uribe have inaugurated DC Lab, a 9,000‑square‑foot, admission‑free contemporary art space on Miami’s Bird Road. The venue expands the nonprofit DC Art Foundation and is timed to open during Miami Art Week on 29 November.
The couple, who also operate in Bogotá and Madrid, founded the DC Art Foundation in 2021 to support artists and link Miami’s art scene with the international community. Their collection exceeds 500 modern and contemporary works, and they serve on boards of institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, Museo Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogotá, and the Coral Gables Museum.
DC Lab’s inaugural exhibition presents a major survey of Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa, the foundation’s current artist‑in‑residence. The show, co‑presented with Italy’s Galleria Continua and Mor Charpentier, features works from Garaicoa’s November residency and recent projects that explore architecture, urbanism and history.
Beyond exhibition halls, DC Lab includes research and education spaces as well as a library. According to Uribe, the venue functions as a laboratory where experimental ideas can be realised, and it hosts a novel residency model that offers international galleries space to present mid‑career and established artists new to Miami.
Chacón emphasizes that DC Lab is intended to deepen community engagement beyond the seasonal focus of Art Basel Miami Beach, allowing galleries to develop in‑depth projects and fostering local‑international exchange through talks, educational activities and the residency programme.
